‘…continuing to demonstrate that this band are rapidly becoming a fresh and vital presence within hardcore…’
London’s So Far So Good have been making movements within hardcore circles since 2024, and have found themselves a cult favourite reputation among up-and-coming talents. Flirting with ideas from metalcore, nu-metal, and electronicore, the band have already released two fantastic EPs, and seek to make it three-for-three with their latest release, ‘THIS CROSS TO BEAR’.
Accompanying their signing with Devil Dog, So Far So Good offer their biggest and most polished affair to date, with four slabs of riotous, all-killer no-filler hardcore. The production quality, whilst never a weak point, is magnitudes improved upon compared to their previous releases, transforming their raw, incendiary aggression into something that is utterly all-consuming.
‘FACING HEAVEN’ layers stabbing riffs over relentless, pummelling hardcore rhythms, before the track slowly disintegrates into a juggernaut breakdown. That swaggering, lurching pace is maintained on ‘MORTAL REMAINS’, as the band deliver two minutes of crushingly monstrous chugs intersected by snare strikes that land like a blacksmith’s hammer.
The band’s flirtations with electronic soundscapes finally return with the frenzied ‘COMMON PEOPLE’. Snaking and surging with volatile and violent energy, the track is one of the strongest offerings from So Far So Good to date, capturing what made their prior material so engaging, and polishing it up for the next stage of their careers. The bass heavy midsection is brilliantly executed, especially as the track continues to ramp up the momentum towards an explosive climax.
‘THIS CROSS TO BEAR’ serves as a testament to So Far So Good’s consistent, brilliant talent, continuing to demonstrate that this band are rapidly becoming a fresh and vital presence within hardcore. The promise displayed is palpable, and one can only imagine of what highs this band are yet to achieve; with bands like this, the hardcore scene is undoubtedly in a healthy place.
