‘…it’s as Madonna as it is Malevolence, and the result sinks its teeth in and refuses to let go…’
Following on from our interview with guitarist Rayne Williams, the exploration of Isle Of Man-via-Manchester’s rising metalcore outfit Auraboros continues with a review of their brand new single, ‘Vice Vers Vertue’. Accompanied by jungle-inspired introductory passage ‘Urge’, this is the third single to be unveiled from the band’s upcoming debut LP, ‘Dysorder’.
Marking the first time vocalist Aisling Killey has taken control of the instrumental writing for Auraboros, this is a disconcerting, indulgent, and sensual anthem for sexual reclamation. Pulsing bass lines build a visceral tension that is only relieved with climactic metalcore passage, before the cycle repeats again; it’s as Madonna as it is Malevolence, and the result sinks its teeth in and refuses to let go.
Killey plays the role of both huntress and hunted with her viciously delightful vocal performance and sharply acerbic lyricism. Not only does the track serve as a defiant pushback against those who slut-shame, with Killey revelling in her own hedonism, but also serves as a throwing down of the gauntlet to those who would sexualise Killey; you can only dream of keeping up with what she has to offer.
In her interview, Williams spoke of the band “getting weird with it” for ‘Dysorder’. ‘Vice Vers Virtue’ is the most emblematic offering of that sentiment yet, and it may also be the strongest of the record’s three current singles by grace of that. If you are still yet to pay attention to Auraboros, then you are only doing yourself a disservice; ‘Dysorder’ is coming, like it or not.
