Coming together in early 2025, Newcastle-upon-Tyne based four-piece Dog Days are a self-described “alternative indie rock” band composed of musicians aged between 16 and 18. The band have been quick to make their mark on their local live circuit, performing on multiple line ups at legendary local grassroots venues, such as The Globe and The Cluny.
At only two songs deep into their career, and only just emerging from their teens, Dog Days already show a promise and degree of musicianship that would put bands decades their senior to shame. ‘Starting Again’ is a gorgeously composed accomplishment that will appeal to indie fans as much as it will emo; the moody, snaking bass line offers suggestions of grunge, whilst the guitar riffs shimmer with an emo melancholy.
It is a slow burner of a track in the truest sense, eschewing immediate hooks in place of musical richness and sumptuous melodies that speak to the soul. The vocals are subdued yet utterly captivating, a weariness resonating with the gorgeously husky tones that captures the cyclical and depressive themes of the track beautifully.
Currently, the band are contained within the confines of their local city circuit, but it feels a safe bet to suggest that won’t be the case for long. Dog Days fit wonderfully into the current wave of emerging alternative bands, and demonstrate a keen aptitude for presenting themselves even beyond their music. Pay close attention to this band.
