Arriving from Ohio via Georgia, three-piece Noise Beneath The Floor have been on an incredible run for the entirety of this year. Working towards their latest project, the band have already released three Song of the Year contenders for 2026, and to make the job of deciding their placements even more difficult, NBTF have elected to release yet another simply magnificent anthem.
Reflecting the title of their debut, ‘A YEAR IN EXILE’, this latest work of art from NBTF continues their trend of transforming their music into a world to get lost within. The elements are simple; grounded bass lines and snappy percussion drive forwards spirited acoustic strumming and whimsical, minimalist guitar melodies. The execution, however, is yet another reminder that NBTF are gradually become clear masters of their indie rock craft; elements of emo, dream pop, and folk are woven into their sound with seamless, glittering musicianship.
Bittersweet and brimming with life, the track continues with the band’s most recent ruminations on self-isolation and mourning the life one could have had before trauma. Dual harmonies from Jade Marié and Gavin McIntire produce simply astounding choruses, melodies descending with a heartbreaking sense of vulnerability and yearning; ‘If I could free myself of all of this/Would nothing better still exist?’ is a genuinely gut-wrenching lyric that questions whether all of the wrongs in life were worthy of being experienced.
Time and time again, this year has demonstrated that Noise Beneath The Floor are something truly special; from the raucous punk ideas of ‘waning’, to this genuinely beautiful indie cut, every single release from them has been nothing short of essential. Noise Beneath The Floor have built a magical world, and are inviting you in; you are missing out on the very finest emo has to offer should you not accept.
