SINGLE REVIEW: Auraboros (feat. DACARA) – The Pendulum

‘…This is the sound of nearly nine years of work through multiple guises coming to fruition; if you’re not paying attention, you’re missing out…’

Emerging in 2020 from the ashes of their previous musical project, Manchester based metalcore trio Auraboros have finally commenced work towards the release of their debut LP, ‘Dysorder’. Earlier this year, we saw the release of the brooding electronic cut ‘Blood Halo’, accompanied by the spoken word ‘Affliction’. The theatrics continue with their brand new pair of releases; ‘Swing’, which is another electrifying spoken word number, and the monolithic ‘The Pendulum’.

Roiling with a grim nihilism, ‘The Pendulum’ is a stark, dystopian reminder that all empires must fall, even if it is by their own hand. Oppressed masses are pushed to resort to violence against a system purposefully constructed to protect the interests of the elite, disorganised and abandoned whilst blood-soaked courts, grand balls, and hoards of wealth sit within gilded palaces. Similar to their previous single, Auraboros demonstrate a real penchant for the cinematic, Aisling Killey delivering vivid lyricism with a palpable, cold violence.

Rayne Williams’ juggernaut riffs are brought to life through some superb mixing choices, oscillating through left to right speakers with devastating weight; for those disillusioned with modern metalcore’s poppier approach, they’ll find much solace in the sheer aggression and weight on display here. Emma Louise Shippen of DACARA makes for a wonderful guest appearance on the track’s second verse, angelic melodies decorating biblical allusions and contrasting Killey’s ferocious growl’s wonderfully.

The band have remained restrained about the finer details of ‘Dysorder’; no release date, no track-list, and no deep dives into what to expect. Despite this, one cannot help but feel remarkable anticipation for what is to come; ‘Blood Halo’ and ‘The Pendulum’ represent the sound of a band’s artistic vision becoming fully realised. This is the sound of nearly nine years of work through multiple guises coming to fruition; if you’re not paying attention, you’re missing out.
