SINGLE REVIEW: Pale Strangers – Ghosts Are Gone

‘…The most massive track released by Pale Strangers to date, this is a herculean slab of hard rock goodness…’

Merseyside hard rock duo Pale Strangers have returned once more with their latest single, ‘Ghosts Are Gone‘. Following on from their lengthy hiatus and rebranding from Rival Bones, the band released the moody ‘Deep Waters‘ earlier this year. Now, the band have decided to go all out, with a return to their ferocious hard rock roots.

The most massive track released by Pale Strangers to date, this is a herculean slab of hard rock goodness. Gritty verses that are punctuated by a ferocious main guitar riff explodes outwards into choruses decorated with pummelling percussion and huge vocal melodies. It’s a relentless affair that retains momentum throughout, commanding you to get to your feet and move.

Even elements such as the production and mixing of the track are executed well, managing to ensure that the verses feel claustrophobic and dense, yet leaving the choruses feeling truly expansive; little details such as the soft usage of reverb on the main melodies elevate the track from a basement rock anthem to a stadium sized juggernaut, keeping that DIY rock spirit alive yet making Pale Strangers sound more ready to take on the world than ever before.

For this duo, this single, alongside their upcoming EP, represents the opportunity for a fantastic fresh start. As great as their past material is, ‘The Pale Strangers‘ feels like it is going to be the start of the band’s most exciting era to date; get yourself some big speakers, because I have a feeling this music will demand it.
