‘…a perfect representation of how an artist should evolve and expand their palette…’
After a lengthy stint living in Merseyside and studying at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, Stavenger’s Mina My returned to her home nation of Norway, bringing her indie-pop style to a brand new audience that have welcomed her with open arms. Last September saw My release her debut EP, ‘The Mall Experiment’, collating her singles with brand new material to offer a strong foundation to work from.
Six months on, and My is back with fresh spin on her sound. Breezy and whimsical, ‘Like Coming Home‘ takes the 90’s indie-pop roots of My’s sound and decorates them with a bluesy country flair, culminating in a track that is spirited, expansive, and cinematic. My walks a tightrope between wishing for the best and fearing the word, repeatedly wondering as to whether she should permit herself the ultimate vulnerability of unrepentant joy.
Subdued vocals unfurl atop of softly twanging guitars and the gentle humming buzz of bass. Sprightly percussion rattles by, guiding the track through muted verses and shimmering choruses, before rallying towards a bridge brimming with a fragile hope. It’s an understated affair, but one that offers a warm and enchanting experience that suits My’s character beautifully.
‘Like Coming Home’ represents the first step into a brand new era for My, and is a perfect representation of how an artist should evolve and expand their palette. It’s a far more cinematic sound than anything My has previously attempted, but loses none of the rustic, endearing charm that My’s original sound has been so beloved for. May My’s music continue to transcend borders.
