SINGLE REVIEW: Noise Beneath The Floor – Car

‘…the band sound brighter, bolder, and more inspired than ever, fearlessly steering their sound towards soundscapes that seem like they were always meant to be theirs…’

Born out of Ohio and based in Georgia, indie rock outfit Noise Beneath The Floor have already kicked off 2026 in string style. Following on from their 2024 sophomore LP ‘WHAT IF I’M ALWAYS GONNA BE THIS WAY?’, their January single ‘waning’ saw the band bring a crunchier punk sound into the mix, making for a perfect creative step forwards.

Shimmering, driving, and bittersweet, the band’s brand new single ‘car’ encapsulates everything that makes Noise Beneath The Floor so compelling to sit with. What starts out as a simple, acoustic-led indie-pop cut unfurls into a genuinely beautiful indie rock anthem, buzzing with synths and distant electric guitars. The elements are all kept humble in scope, but how they coalesce leads to a surprisingly cinematic listening experience, expansive yet grounded.

Vocals alternate between tender birdsong melodies that resonate with clarity, and passages soaked in autotune and vocal effects that work wonderfully in contrast with the organic foundations of the song. Jade Marié’s vocals are imbued with a real sense yearning, evoking the prospect of a better life some place else; somewhere, there’s an open road to be driven down with ‘car’ blasting from the stereo.

It seems cliche, and maybe even tacky, to be ascribing “song of the year” labels so early in the year, but what Noise Beneath The Floor have produced here is at the very least certain to be a strong staple of the year’s soundtrack. With every release, the band sound brighter, bolder, and more inspired than ever, fearlessly steering their sound towards soundscapes that seem like they were always meant to be theirs. This feels like the start of a very special era for this band.
