EP REVIEW: I Promised The World – I Promised The World

…Rich in its depth yet razor-sharp in its presentation, this project primes its creators to be the next big thing in post-hardcore…

Following the passing of his father in 2020, vocalist and guitarist Caleb Molina took to writing music as a form of catharsis. Three years later, this would provide the foundation for the emergence of I Promised The World, with their debut EP ‘After the Flatline‘ released under the band’s prior name, Sinema. Capturing a cult following of people hankering for the glory days of early 00’s post-hardcore, the Texan outfit would go on to release their debut record, ‘Fear of the Fall‘, and continued to establish themselves as ones to watch within the scene.

And people certainly were watching. In 2025, alongside announcing their name change from Sinema to I Promised The World, the band would be signed by Rise Records, joining the likes of The Acacia Strain, Spiritbox, and Touché Amoré. The band would also go on to tour with blackgaze legends Deafheaven, opening for the band across the US and creating a sizeable impact crater wherever they played. Now going into 2026, the band have released an eponymous EP that serves as the perfect introduction into the world of one of the brightest rising stars within post-hardcore.

What I Promised The World have crafted on this five-track EP feels truly like a hidden gem unearthed from the early 00’s. ‘Bliss In 7 Languages’ alternates between moments of guttural brutality and soaring emo melodies, culminating in a wickedly chunky breakdown. ‘A Pure Expression’, on the other hand, builds from thunderous lows towards a climax dominated by powerful belted passages that wash over you with the impact of a tidal wave. It’s all produced and mastered perfectly, with a cautious amount of polish applied; the rawness is retained whilst I Promised The World sound utterly immense.

Emerald Waltz’ commences with beautifully presented guitar work, dancing about with a subdued tone, before vaulting into cascading melodies that rain down beneath shimmering vocal passages. Things only become more shiver-inducing when the screamed vocals join the fray, giving the track a simply stunning and cinematic climax. That sense of scale is only magnified tenfold on the EP’s closing number, ‘Future Worth Dying For’, with its progressive song structure, contrasting weight and melody, and impassioned vocal harmonies.

Post-hardcore hasn’t been away if you’ve been paying attention, but regardless, ‘I Promised The World’ is the kind of EP that will have you screaming “post-hardcore is back” from the very rooftops. Rich in its depth yet razor-sharp in its presentation, this project primes its creators to be the next big thing in post-hardcore. An essential listen for anybody who considers themselves a fan of the genre.
