SINGLE REVIEW: Landon Noland – Black Ink

‘…a career that carries immense potential, and which continues to blossom further with every new release…’

Orlando’s Landon Noland has been honing his craft since the age of 15, with his jazz bar origins taking him to beloved stages such as the Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Studios. Last year, however, saw an artist reborn, as Noland wiped the slate clean and reimagined himself from the ground up; appearance, style, and sound. The resulting work was a look into the commanding, theatrical, and dusky world of a genuinely exciting rising star.

Draped in a dark melodrama, ‘Black Ink’ sees Noland harnessing his theatrical roots, and channeling them through a prism of progressive rock and hard rock. Guitars alternate between pensive riffs and driving solos, as the track shifts and changes from a melancholic gloom to a sparkling dark fury. There’s a real, devilishly delightful 80’s feel to it all.

Noland, as ever, makes for a genuinely enchanting vocal presence at the forefront of the track. Powerful melodies plunge downwards with a ferocious metal grit, whilst the back half of the track features beautiful vocal harmonies that lends the whole affair an ethereal aura. There’s a roiling, vengeful sentiment to both his lyricism and delivery that never feels overbearing; it’s tense, gripping, and wickedly vicious.

Noland’s evolution continues to be an exciting journey to behold indeed. He has a clear understanding of his skill set as a musician, but never shows fear of pushing himself into uncharted territories. The result is a career that carries immense potential, and which continues to blossom further with every new release.
