‘…immense in terms of both its scope and the scale of its fun, and goes toe-to-toe in terms of quality with bands one hundred times their size…’
Kicking off the music reviews for 2026, we head all the way over to Singapore. Faraday are a five-piece that have been active for twelve years, and after multiple EPs and singles, the outfit released their debut full length in 2022. The band pride themselves on evolving their sound, and aim to offer a varied listening experience that ranges from “acoustic ballads” through to “heavy riffs”.
This vision is clear to hear on their fantastic brand new EP, ‘DELIRIUM’. There’s a classic metalcore sound present, but Faraday have deftly utilised their skill set to outmanoeuvre any potential of sounding dated or generic; tracks thump with an electrifying, danceable energy, whilst bombarding the listener with a torrent of almighty riffs.
‘MEANT2B’ sets the tone immediately and perfectly, with kick drum smacks that land like right hooks to the cranium, whilst swaggering riffs rage with a monstrous sense of groove. The claustrophobic firestorm of these verses gives way beautifully to soaring choruses that are marked with compelling vocal melodies. ‘Morpheus’ ramps up the energy even further, as drums carve out rhythms that wouldn’t go amiss in a dance-punk banger, whilst guitars channel out seismic riffs. The bridge in particular is a shot of pure adrenaline straight to the brain, stripping everything back before one final, cataclysmic chorus.
Things only become more impactful with the sparkling synths, strident strings, and soul-stirring melodies of the truly beautiful closing number, ‘Most Of The Time, I Think Of The Afterlife’. A ballad sculpted with the heaviness of the band’s sound in tact, the track twists and stirs through sparkling verses and immense choruses, before sprawling outwards towards an expansive yet tender climax. The track contrasts the pure fury of the rest of the EP wonderfully, without losing any of the jagged heaviness that makes Faraday so energising to behold.
The sounds of heavy music are often dominated by musicians of the northern hemisphere; Faraday are proving that this isn’t due to a lack of talent from the south, but a lack of attention that is so sorely deserved. ‘DELIRIUM’ is immense in terms of both its scope and the scale of its fun, and goes toe-to-toe in terms of quality with bands one hundred times their size.
