‘…a fantastic effort from Iguanas On The Floor that wholly deserve the attention of anybody who likes their rock with a side of roll…’
Based out of Liverpool, Iguanas On The Floor that bring a self-described balance of ‘upbeat and manic’ to the world with their punky take on funk rock. Frontperson Eve O’Riordan has already appeared in multiple reviews here, with her solo folk material serving as some of the best releases of the year (more on that in December). Iguanas On The Floor places her in a very different yet no less compelling light, accompanied by three incredibly compelling bandmates.
Rambunctious and rebellious, ‘Magpie’ is a juggernaut sized slab of bluesy goodness. Guitars rollick and riff with an unrepentant punkish grit, whilst the rhythms gouge out brilliantly funky grooves. The energy is both ceaseless and devilishly infectious, demanding you to get moving.
O’Riordan works just as perfectly as she does with her solo folk endeavours, with an immense vocal presence that works wonders in tandem with the snarling instrumental work. She is both powerful and playful, serving to command and channel the restless punk rock spirit that this track exudes.
It is a fantastic effort from Iguanas On The Floor that wholly deserve the attention of anybody who likes their rock with a side of roll. ‘Magpie’ is a perfect example of how to display a retro flair without feeling at all dated, and offers multi-generational appeal. Just don’t put this one on if you’re not prepared to dance.
