SINGLE REVIEW: Landon Noland – Zealot

‘…What Noland has achieved on ‘Zealot’ is a frankly remarkable step forwards in every manner for this upcoming artist….’

Based out of Orlando, Florida, Landon Noland has been honing his craft since the age of 15, performing in pubs and clubs, before expanding outwards to appear on radio shows, podcasts, and even the stage of the Hard Rock Cafe Universal Orlando. 2023 saw Noland release his debut live album, which was indicative of an artist with great ambition and promise. This year has seen him working towards his debut studio LP, and ‘Zealot’ is the latest peek into that blossoming world.

Zealot’ is a soul-stirring and deeply brooding affair, with a cinematic yet surprisingly minimalist instrumental that sprawls outwards towards the listener with a dark majesty. Guitars gently strum with a steady yet ceaseless lurch forwards, whilst drums conjure up waltzing rhythms that tug at the listener.

Noland throughout is an eerie yet charismatic presence, with a powerful tone to his voice that captures perfectly both anger and vulnerability. All at once the track can be read as a condemnation of Christian fundamentalism and the severing of ties with somebody controlling; it will speak with equal strength regardless of whether it is perceived through the personal lens or the societal lens.

What Noland has achieved on ‘Zealot’ is a frankly remarkable step forwards in every manner for this upcoming artist. The theatrical and jazzy nature of Noland’s roots are still present, but now truly feel like something magnificently original, and are delivered in a manner that is wholly unexpected. Keep a close eye out for Noland’s upcoming debut record; it could be a fantastic listen.
