‘…the sort of inventive, talented, and free-spirited musicians that the indie scene so desperately needs…’
It’s been a little over a year since Roscoe Street released their debut single, ‘Overdraft’, and since then they have firmly established themselves as a need-to-know name on Merseyside, with wildly exuberant live sets, and a slick, polished sound that takes indie rock to new heights. The hype is worth believing, and their latest single is the greatest proof yet that this is a band you need to have on your radar.
‘Sunbleached’ isn’t merely another great song from Roscoe Street. This feels like a step-up in every single regard; intelligently composed, gorgeously produced, and masterfully performed, this track wholly deserves to become an instant indie classic. Roscoe Street’s trademark funk elements, with buoyant melodic bass lines and effortlessly cool saxophones, are explored through a disco lens on this wonderfully carefree number, draped over the top of crisp, sparkling percussion.
The sax hook is devilishly catchy, whilst a degree of class is brought to the affair by the jazzy yet understated piano melodies. The vocalist is a genuine delight to behold, with a wonderfully distinctive vocal tone, and a real mastery of conveying the reckless abandon of youth; the love, the chaos, and the pure, celebratory hopefulness is captured perfectly. It’s the antidote to the aching knees of adulthood.
This is undoubtedly one of the finest singles of 2025 reviewed here, and a contender for song of the year. Roscoe Street are not only wonderful representatives for the Merseyside music scene, but the sort of inventive, talented, and free-spirited musicians that the indie scene so desperately needs. If you do only one thing today, make sure it is listening to ‘Sunbleached’.
