SINGLE REVIEW: Bye Bye – Antlers & Drumsticks

‘…a creative and compelling listen that carries both an emo whimsy and a hardcore aggression…’

The recent waves of heavy and alternative music that have emerged from Merseyside have been some of the most exciting to date. From rozemary to Monroe., Arcadia Ego to False Thoughts, grassroots venues are playing host to more and more fresh talent that is worthy of your attention. Joining this ever growing list are Bye Bye, a four-piece post-emo outfit that, earlier this month, dropped their debut double single, ‘Antlers & Drumsticks‘.

‘I Grew Antlers And Died‘ is electrifying chaos, with midwest emo guitar riffing colliding with vocals that would not go amiss on a skramz record, whilst rhythms carve brilliantly danceable grooves, constantly shifting and changing shape. The choruses carry themselves with a playful swagger, almost feeling like something you may find on a dirty 00’s indie rock record. It’s a total frenzy of sounds and styles that somehow works together effortlessly.

May Your Hairs Turn To Drumsticks‘ is a far more straightforwards affair, with blistering, snappy rhythms and scrappy riffs all coming together to form a viciously fun punk cut. The snare tone cuts through the noise like a dodgeball to the cranium, whilst the vocals are delivered at near breakneck speed in a raw and ferocious manner. The tempo change around the midsection is a pleasant touch, showcasing that Bye Bye aren’t just here to be just another loud emo band.

Antlers & Drumsticks‘ is an impressive debut release in every regard. This is a creative and compelling listen that carries both an emo whimsy and a hardcore aggression, coalescing into seven minutes of music that demands you to get moving. Keep an eye out for their debut live performance, because with songs like these, it promises to be an unmissable experiences
