‘…Both ‘rip.’ and ‘tear.’ are a shining testament to not only False Thoughts as musicians, but as creatives, and representatives of their scene…’
Following on from their killer collaboration with rozemary’s Izabel Lavin, Merseyside’s False Thoughts are back once more to showcase the incredible talent of the region’s heavy scene. A companion piece to their previous single, ‘tear.’ sees them bring Arcadia Ego’s Nat Owens on board in another visceral exploration of paternal relationships.
If ‘rip.’ was about aggression, then ‘tear.’ is all about atmosphere. From the sparse keys, to the moody, doom-metal infused riffs, this is a gloomy and somewhat progressive number that compliments ‘rip.’ perfectly. The track evolves through jagged hardcore beats and swaggering grooves, carved out by a band with a brilliant understanding of how to make heavy sound interesting.
Mike Fenwick is once again a vicious presence as a vocalist, with an instantly recognisable scream marked by its ferocious upper register tones. The guest vocals of Owens make for a searing bridge segment that builds with a palpable, venomous anger, working perfectly in tandem with those of Fenwick.
There has never been a better time to be from Merseyside and enjoy heavy music. The scene is not only packed with incredible talent, but bands that understand the importance of community. Both ‘rip.’ and ‘tear.’ are a shining testament to not only False Thoughts as musicians, but as creatives, and representatives of their scene.
