SINGLE REVIEW: The Sukis – To No One

‘…2025 could be the year that The Sukis start to truly evolve from being local stars, to the next need-to-know name in indie…’

It has been two years since we last heard from The Sukis. The Liverpool based three-piece created quite the stir back in 2021, with their debut professional single ‘Becca‘ achieving virality and garnering over 17 million streams. Since then, the band have been hard at work establishing themselves as quite the force in the indie world, with impressive live shows being accompanied by stylish, attention-grabbing tunes. In 2023, the band released their EP ‘A Sense Of Doubt‘, which has been followed by a steady stream of shows. Now finally, after two years of perfecting their craft in the studio, the band have returned with the brand new single ‘To No One‘.

Those two years have been time well spent, with ‘To No One‘ being an immediately impactful slab of indie that is almost certain to find a place on your summer listening rotation. The jangly, bittersweet tones that have come to define the sound of The Sukis is still present, but are now melded perfectly with a heavier, driving flair. The rhythms carved out by the brilliant melodic bass and punchy percussion demand that you get on your feet and get moving, as they carry the track forwards with surging energy.

The light amounts of distortion utilised by the guitars lends a wonderful amount of edge to the otherwise sunny track, whilst vocalist Tige Burns sounds stronger than ever before, effortlessly conjuring compelling melodies that hook you in on the first listen. The themes of vulnerability and communication are captured perfectly through lyrics such as ‘Is it me or sertraline?/Can’t speak to no one’ and ‘When did we come to nothing/You’ll have to mention something’.

By this time this review releases, the band will already have accomplished their first tour of the year, and there is no indication that they plan on slowing down after that; it feels as though 2025 could be the year that The Sukis start to truly evolve from being local stars, to the next need-to-know name in indie. ‘To No One‘ is a perfect demonstration of how to take your sound, and reinvigorate it, creating something that is certain to appeal to long-time listeners, whilst marking you out as a band with a real creative streak.

Merseyside listeners should not be surprised when, not if, they headline Sound City.
