SINGLE REVIEW: Swindled – Cosmic Immigrants

‘…Swindled have set out to mark 2025 as their year. Their retro-tinged, psychedelic sound does not come at the expense of sounding fresh or relevant…’

Hot off the heels of their last single ‘Dear Past Life’, north east England five-piece Swindled are back to make sure they are a name you pay attention to in 2025. This time sees the art-pop outfit looking to the stars, with their richly crafted new single ‘Cosmic Immigrants’.

This latest number by Swindled taps into the sounds of psychedelic rock. Glossy effect-soaked guitars are layered atop of moody grooves, giving the whole affair a melancholic yet dreamy feeling. Rhythms subtly yet playfully switch-up between verses and choruses, keeping you from getting too comfortable with the spacious soundscapes.

The vocals capture both whimsical escapism and a sense of strange claustrophobia; it is perhaps easy to interpret the lyricism as not only an ode to how cool space is, but getting somewhere you’ve always wanted to be in life and finding out you really don’t belong.

With both ‘Cosmic Immigrants’ and ‘Dear Past Life’, Swindled have set out to mark 2025 as their year. Their retro-tinged, psychedelic sound does not come at the expense of sounding fresh or relevant, and is certain to appeal to both classic rock and modern rock fans.
