SINGLE REVIEW: Grace Elizabeth Harvey – Lullaby For Wasted Time

Based out of Birkenhead, Grace Elizabeth Harvey is a singer-songwriter and cellist getting ready to release their debut EP, ‘Other Faith’. With attention from BBC Introducing and a plethora of publications, she describes her focus as looking towards ‘faith in a faithless world’, and plans to tour her EP across locations ranging from Mold to Durham. Her latest single, ‘Lullaby For Wasted Time’, already marks this EP out as an essential listen.

In a similar way that bread and butter can feed the soul, Harvey’s sound consists of very simple ingredients that are so beautifully orchestrated that they carry the richness and depth of an entire orchestra. She plucks the guitar strings in a folk-tinged manner that feels free-spirited and improvisational, yet evidently has spent a great deal of time constructing a beautiful melody for the instrument.

Soft suggestions of cello peek through the melancholy with gorgeous harmonies, whilst sparse keys twinkle softly throughout; Harvey possesses a clear understanding of how space can be utilised in music to create breathtaking sonic landscapes in a ‘less-is-more’ manner. Furthermore, Harvey’s vocals are all at once rousing and tender, with her lyrical rumination on love and loss being delivered with a gentle, heartbreaking, pastoral beauty.
