SINGLE REVIEW: Paint Me In Colour – Happy

‘…’Happy’ feels like the start of a brand new era for this outfit, and this could be their finest era yet…’

It’s been a little while since we last heard from Merseyside alternative rockers Paint Me In Colour. Following on from their debut headline UK tour, the band have taken a well-deserved break. Finally, the band have returned in 2025 with a brand new single and a brand new headline tour.

With their latest effort, ‘Happy’, Liv Springer offers a disconcertingly vulnerable performance, as she dives into themes of body image, self confidence, and the pursuit of happiness. Her voice is as impressively powerful as always, but experiments more with her strident lower register, lending a gently bitter tone to the track. Atop of this, simplistic yet visceral lyricism gives the whole affair a real cathartic impact.

Beneath the vocals, the track surfers forwards with an indie-rock/power-pop flair; punchy, driving guitar riffs are layered atop of simple yet effective rhythms, with George Higgins’ bass lines adding just the perfect amount of groove to proceedings. It’s an infectious affair that understands how to catch an audience’s attention without overshadowing the emotive impact.

With a new headline tour this summer, Paint Me In Colour remain an exciting band within the Merseyside scene, with a real sense of ambition and passion behind their work. ‘Happy’ feels like the start of a brand new era for this outfit, and this could be their finest era yet.
