SINGLE REVIEW: France, You’re On Your Own – omg, I love u

‘…a surprisingly complex and inventive love song that demands to be listened to again and again…’

Merseyside-based electronic-folk band France, You’re On Your Own are back once more. Following on from the gorgeous melancholy of their previous track, ‘Focus on Me’, the band continue to cement their status as a must-listen act with their fantastically fun new track, ‘Omg, I Love You’.

This latest single is a brief burst of sunshine from the folk duo, balancing perfectly a simple song structure with the whimsical chaos that has come to represent the band. It almost leaves the track feeling like a sea shanty, with the central ‘oh my God, I love you babe‘ delivered with playfully boisterous gang vocals.

Outside of this, vocals are layered with glitching beeps and ethereal distortion effects, changing presentation with each loop of the verse and chorus. It makes for a wonderfully unique and brilliantly fun experience to behold, with little details unveiling themselves with each repeated listen.

It may only be just over a minute long, but ‘Omg, I Love You’ is a testament to FYOYO’s ability to consider every facet of a song; the simple looping ABAB structure belies a surprisingly complex and inventive love song that demands to be listened to again and again. Just be aware it will become lodged in your head for the foreseeable future.
