‘…For those who enjoy their post-punk with an emphasis on the punk, then ‘Kimbo Slice’ could be your new favourite listen…’
First appearing back in 2022, Leicester -based four piece ANT HILL have spent much of their early career tearing up the local stages with their electrifying blend of post-punk and grunge. Their debut single, ‘Comedown (Another Name)’ dropped in November last year, and saw the band conjure a distinctive, thunderous sound that was as Fontaines D.C. as it was Royal Blood. Now the band have returned with a second bruising single.
‘Kimbo Slice’ is a raucous, ferocious beast of a track, lumbering towards the listener with overwhelming walls of distorted guitars and shape shifting percussive rhythms; the track sounds ready to self-combust at any given moment.. Elements of post-punk, noise rock, and grunge are woven together, with the blown-out, crushing instrumental keeping a tight grip on the vocals, which are positioned in the midst of it all.
Perhaps what is most surprising about it all, however, is the delicate psych rock flair that the track is delivered with. Despite the noisy and reckless veneer that this track presents with, the members of ANT HILL offer surprisingly nuanced and intricate musical ideas, with a hypnotic song structure and musical performances that offer more with every listen.
ANT HILL are here to make noise, but also are here to offer an electrifying and creative take on modern alternative trends. For those who enjoy their post-punk with an emphasis on the punk, then ‘Kimbo Slice’ could be your new favourite listen.
