’…Bouquet have felt special since their debut release, and that continues to be the case to this very point…’
Having already broken our hearts earlier this year with the stunning ‘In The Creek’, Bouquet could have left 2024 with their heads held high. However, thankfully for any fans of good music, that isn’t the case, as the band have saw fit to release another incredible single in the form of the soaring ‘Lovely Things’.
Since their inception, Bouquet have been masters of crafting beautifully crushing emo-tinged anthems, and this is no exception. Twinkling guitar passages surge into sweeping choruses that instrumentally show suggestions of grunge and shoegaze; the riffs are immense, whilst the percussion drives forwards with a brilliant power and passion. Everything shimmers with a cinematic beauty, as the track vaults through explosive choruses and rhythms that toy with interesting and unexpected phrases.
The vocals are rich with a poignant emotive depth, compelling in a way words refuse to do justice; you don’t just listen to Bouquet, you experience it. Furthermore, as is often the case with Bouquet’s output, the lyricism is gently abstract yet beautifully executed. Allusions to remaining true to yourself in a society that functions as a panopticon are woven through gorgeous yet crushing lines such as ‘Everyone’s got a critique for you but won’t self reflect/They’ll just shift the blame’ and ‘All of the lovely things/The prettiest parts we see/Become petals on the sidewalk’; what we do in our lives is ultimately what remains.
Bouquet have felt special since their debut release, and that continues to be the case to this very point. With rumblings of a sophomore EP from the band, there is still time to get in early, so if the band explode into widespread consciousness just as their talent deserves, then you can brag that you were there first.
