SINGLE REVIEW: Sefeltt – Kiss Me

’…an insight into a band that have some deeply creative ideas just waiting to blossom…’

Last month saw the rebirth of alternative rock outfit Juno, wiping the slate clean and re-entering the world under the moniker Sefeltt. The five-piece have become a popular choice on Merseyside’s live indie circuit, with their intense and energetic performances and distinct, noise-rock tinged sound. All of the what made Juno interesting now has blossomed into something more vital on Sefeltt’s debut track ‘Kiss Me’.

Pulling together strands of musical influence from post-punk, psych rock, garage rock, and even just straight cut rock’n’roll, what Sefeltt have produced feels as if retro rock has been focused through the lens of modern trends. The alternating driving yet dreamy verses and the explosive, infectious choruses not have the listener firmly engaged, but begging to hear it live; you can perfectly imagine it to be an electrifying in-person experience.

All of this comes down to the fantastic musicianship of all involved. Sefeltt clearly understand the effectiveness of balancing nuanced and intricate performances with simply rocking out; noodling guitar melodies erupt into relentless, scorching riffs, whilst rhythms ebb and flow in a tug-of-ear that leads to brilliantly danceable climaxes. Atop all of this is the vocal work of Max Mullen, who takes a modern indie snarl and channels it through the glam rock punch of perhaps Mark Bolan; it’s incredibly distinctive, packed with a sharp sense of character.

Juno always held promise, but with their rebirth into Sefeltt, that now feels even more tangible and achievable than ever before. ‘Kiss Me’ offers both an alternative rock banger that will slot perfectly into your indie playlists, and an insight into a band that have some deeply creative ideas just waiting to blossom. Remember their name.
