’…the kind of track that demands to be blasted from your car radio on a long drive to nowhere…’
Pretty Velvet feel like a band on the verge of a major breakthrough. The five-piece have a clear artistic vision, with a love for retro rock told through a modern and feminine lens, and this has already seen them support indie titans such as The Zutons and Sundara Karma. If you weren’t already paying attention, then their latest single might well be the antidote to that.
‘A Love Like You‘ is marked by a gorgeous appreciation of sonic light and shade. With silky, dreamy verses that smoulder with a subdued yet irreverent passion, the track snakes around the listener before the choruses explode upwards with a driving 00’s rock flair that still manages to maintain the ethereal undertones of the track. A bristling, funk-infused breakdown in the climax of the track acts as a phenomenal pay-off, decorated by a simply scorching guitar performance.
Dual vocal performances intertwine with one another in an electrifying manner, with the powerhouse Leah Maeve being perfectly accompanied by the gorgeous subtleties of Daniel Maple; the sparkling passion of the track becomes completely unforgettable thanks to their intense chemistry, which truly makes you believe they are perhaps 70’s lovers on the run.
As previously mentioned, Pretty Velvet aim to take retro rock sensibilities and refocus them through a modern lens, and that creative ethos is more than apparent here. ‘A Love Like Yours’ is the kind of track that demands to be blasted from your car radio on a long drive to nowhere, making you live those cinematic moments of your dreams. Undeniably, there is a real magic about Pretty Velvet.
