‘…The Garnetts are ensuring that they do not get lost in the crowd; ‘Never Going Back’ could not be mistaken for a song by anyone else…’
Ahead of a mini run of shows later this year, Merseyside-based The Garnetts have returned once more with a brand new single, ‘Never Going Back’. Now a four piece, with an additional guitarist completing their roster, the band are making a strong case for being one of the most exciting acts on the Merseyside rock circuit.
With its shockingly complex rhythmic sections and rich, infectious vocal melodies, ‘Never Going Back‘ is undeniably one of the slickest tracks you will hear this year. The indie rock core of The Garnetts is still present, but has been decorated with a shimmering, swaggering flair that one might expect from the likes of dance rock and even math rock; the manner in which the deftly performed yet subdued verses accelerate into glittering, hurtling choruses commands you to get moving.
All of this is further brought to life by the rich amount of details that the band emboss their track with. Sparkling synths and superbly incorporated vocal harmonies transform ‘Never Going Back‘ from a simple indie anthem into an electrifying demonstration of the band’s wonderful musicianship, demanding that you replay the track again and again to truly appreciate all of its nuanced details and raw technical proficiency.
Merseyside has never been short in supply of indie-adjacent bands, but The Garnetts are ensuring that they do not get lost in the crowd; ‘Never Going Back‘ could not be mistaken for a song by anyone else. There’s a distinct, effortless coolness that only comes with making a conscious effort to be true to yourself and to not simply fit in with the trends, and that is precisely why you need to be checking out The Garnetts.
