SINGLE REVIEW: The Marigolds – In My Head

’…The Marigolds have demonstrated clearly that they are ready to take on the world, and set it on fire in the process…’

Liverpool’s premier punks are back. After several months of relentless gigging, and studio sessions working alongside local producer Corey Moore, The Marigolds have released what promises to be the first of a collection of tracks this year. If you haven’t listened to The Marigolds before, then ‘Into My Mind’ offers simply the perfect opportunity to do so.

Immediately, the listener is slapped in the face with an absolutely filthy bass line, layered with a raucous, gritty guitar riff that practically snarls with punkish venom. Percussion crackles with a danceable energy, driving the track forwards at breakneck speed. Choruses are punctuated by a devilishly catchy vocal hook that promises to be stuck with you for the rest of the week.

The track blazes by in glorious fury, progressively becoming more unhinged and unpredictable in the process. Joe Green‘s vocals morph into a vicious growl, before devolving into frantic yelps atop a sonic inferno as the track reaches a dramatic, blood-pumping climax. The track strips rhythms pack to a half-temp pace, gradually building up to an apex, and almost as if pulling up from a nosedive at the last minute, explodes into a guaranteed mosh-pit of a closing passage.

On ‘Into My Head’, The Marigolds have demonstrated clearly that they are ready to take on the world, and set it on fire in the process. It’s a blistering performance from start to finish that feels immediately ready for radio play without sacrificing any of the punk ethos; the sound of immense, crowd-pleasuring potential.
