’…a song that truly feels perfect for long drives on melancholic late summer evenings…’
Following on from their wonderfully wistful release ‘Walls’, Occasional Dreams are back once more with the announcement of their debut full length album, ‘To The City’. The five-piece will be dropping this record on October 4th, and ahead of that, the band have released a stunning new single, ‘Shimmer In Your Eye’.
Describing their sound as ‘music for your journey‘, this has never been more apparent than on this brilliantly driving new track, ‘Shimmer In Your Eye‘. With a foundation of percussion that charges forth relentlessly, the track is embossed with jangly guitars, glittering synths, and punchy bass lines, leading to a song that truly feels perfect for long drives on melancholic late summer evenings. Rocking guitar melodies decorate the back end of the traction, truly leaning into the retro rock and roll influences of the band, and adding some gorgeous cinematic scope to the track.
Oskar Christensen’s vocals truly brings those melancholic tones to life, with his subdued yet resonant vocal delivery perfectly woven into the fabric of the track. With lyricism that sings of chasing freedom, Christensen’s work perfectly captures the mood set up by the foundation of the instrumentalists, culminating in a track that could easily feature on a movie’s end credits, as the protagonist takes to their car and departs into the setting sun.
With a flair for producing cinematic and conceptually rich alternative rock, their debut record already holds an awful lot of promise. There is a real sense that Occasional Dreams are a band that refuse to be pigeonholed into a single style, and that creative drive is certain to take them places. Next time you’re going on a long drive, maybe take Occasional Dreams along for the ride with you.
