’…dreamy acoustic guitars, gently meandering bass lines, and some stellar production choices…’
Occasional Dreams are the latest outfit to arise from the bustling indie scene of Liverpool. The five-piece take influence from a wide range of genres, such as shoegaze, heartland rock, and alternative rock, and look to be releasing their debut record, ‘To The City’, on October 4th. The band are picking up the momentum for this release with their latest single, ‘Walls’.
This is a particularly gorgeous country-flecked indie cut, with dreamy acoustic guitars, gently meandering bass lines, and some stellar production choices that enable the whole track to feel warm and rich to the ear. Bright chimes of electric guitar cut through the glossy soundscape to add some lovely moments of sharpness.
Vocalist Oskar Christensen is an absolute delight to listen to, with a real wistfulness to his delivery that adds to the overall melancholy and intimate atmosphere of the track. The melodies he delivers are understated, choosing to focus on pure soulful emotion opposed to any acrobatics, leading to some silky-smooth and truly gorgeous melodic passages.
With summer now firmly on the horizon, ‘Walls’ makes for a wonderful edition to that summertime playlist for long car rides. Occasional Dreams offer a sound that both perfectly fits the aesthetic of modern indie, and adds enough of a unique collection of influences to make them worth your time. An understated gem.
