SINGLE REVIEW: Centerfold – Last Dance

’…a band with a great formula of passion, technical proficiency, and creativity…’

Back for round three, Liverpool-based four-piece Centerfold return once more to provide us with some more of their progressive-tinged alternative rock. With two solid singles under their belt, and a slowly growing live performance portfolio, the band continue success with their hard rocking new single, ‘Last Dance’.

Last Dance’ is marked by particularly fantastic instrumental performances throughout, perfectly managing to utilise complexity and showmanship in a manner that doesn’t overshadow the track with flashy tricks. Bass lines slowly sneak about beneath intricate riffs, before they slam together during driving, blues rock choruses.

The track’s ferocious climax sees a blistering vocal passage from Josh Stevenson, effortlessly rising up to into near screamed vocals. However, much of the rest of the track utilises some great restraint; this is the first time that Josh Stevenson has properly explored his lower register on a Centerfold track, result in a smooth drawl that wavers between melancholy and mystique.

Once more, Centerfold mark themselves out as a band with a great formula of passion, technical proficiency, and creativity; ‘Last Dance’ carries the spirit of classic hard rock, but coats it in a modern sheen; a fun and fierce listen.
