SINGLE REVIEW: Sophie Li – Billbords

Another member of the latest wave of indie artists taking over Liverpool, Sophie Li is a name that has been gaining quite some traction. With a distinct yet accessible sound, and plenty of local gigs under her belt, it seems clear that Li intends to go far. Her latest single, ‘Billboards’, is guaranteed to help her achieve those aims.

Pulling heavily from 80’s pop and 90’s rock, this uplifting cut is packed with jangly guitars, infectious vocal melodies, and glittering synth lines; there’s a deeply pleasant nostalgic charm to the whole affair that makes it feel like some lost classic radio rock tune.

Li throughout is a charismatic and charming presence; instead vocal acrobatics, she lays down driving, catchy melodies that easily will have you singing along, especially during the choruses. The optimistic nature of the track is perfectly captured by her delivery, with a gentle amount of whimsy that keeps it feeling spirited and relatable.
