It all feels wonderfully nostalgic, like something from the best 90’s movie you’ve never seen. Plastic Heart have truly bloomed with ‘Colours’,
Following up on their last single, ‘The Giver of Stars’, released all the way back in November last year, Manchester-based alternative rock outfit Plastic Heart are back once more. With a gig at the city’s legendary venue The Deaf Institute now under their belts, supporting —Lower Loveday, the band have taken the next big step in their career with their fantastic atmospheric new track, ‘Colours’.
Glittering, chirpy guitars twang along next to steady bass rhythms and understated yet catchy percussive patterns, before surging into a chorus packed with a powerful poppy flurry of punchy riffs. It’s a wonderfully paced musical ebb and flow, building up to soaring choruses before plunging back down into wonderfully constructed verses that strip everything back just enough to add some delightful contrast. The inclusion of sparse keys throughout the track is a welcome addition to Plastic Heart’s sound, adding some real depth and illumination.
The track builds to a simple, rocking guitar solo outro, the percussion switching up the tempo in a moment of electrifying musical fireworks that urges you to get up a dance. Throughout all of this, vocalist Naomi Schofield is a fantastic presence; her voice is presented with a real warmth as she ducks and weaves through infectious melodies and powerful notes.
It all feels wonderfully nostalgic, like something from the best 90’s movie you’ve never seen. Plastic Heart have truly bloomed with ‘Colours’, each musical element across the span of this track complimenting each other, building the song into something that feels far bigger than the sum of its parts. Certainly, ‘Colours’ cements Plastic Heart as ones to watch in Manchester’s burgeoning alternative scene.
