SINGLE REVIEW: The Bigger Picture – Break Away

catchy melodies, soaring choruses, and intricate musicianship to create something as radio-friendly as it is genuinely captivating

Back in 2022, The Bigger Picture released their fantastic debut EP, ‘a ghost & a wish’. Soaring pop melodies colliding with ambitious and unconventional ideas, this felt like the perfect start of the career of a very exciting band. So when 2023 came and went with barely a whisper from the band, it was something of a surprise.

Now finally, The Bigger Picture have returned, a band reborn. ‘Break Away’ is their first release in a new form; a central creative duo, working alongside other talented musicians that they have sought out. Thankfully, even with this change in structure, the band have lost none of their talent, identity, or charm.

Once again, The Bigger Picture employ catchy melodies, soaring choruses, and intricate musicianship to create something as radio-friendly as it is genuinely captivating. Sparkling guitars echo over prominent baselines, whilst the percussion shimmers as it weaves between steady rhythms and flashy fills. The track builds to a brilliantly triumphant close that places full focus on the interplay between the instruments.

On top of all of this are gorgeous vocal performances that are some of the strongest yet from the band. Guest female vocals are provided by Stina Hellberg, whose airy upper register plays perfectly alongside the distinctive lead vocals, as the band weave an ode to the painful experience that is growth, and the joy that can come from taking the huge step of wiping the slate clean.

2024 seems like a brilliant fresh start for a wonderfully exciting band. With more new songs in the pipe-line, working alongside a collection of wonderful musicians, The Bigger Picture absolutely should be on your radar.
