SINGLE REVIEW: What Will Be – Always

Between genuinely great musicianship and an undeniably strong work ethic, there is a definite place in the modern rock landscape for a band like What Will Be

Ahead of their debut headline show at the Night & Day Cafe next month, Manchester based alternative rockers What Will Be have returned with a gritty, hard-rock tinged, shot of adrenaline in the form of their new single ‘Always’.

Swaggering guitar riffs collide with fantastically punchy percussion that crackles with energy, culminating in a track that packs both a bluesy groove and progressive flair into a bite-size treat of alt rock goodness. There’s something that feels almost a little early 00’s about it all, pulling from those Incubus and Biffy Clyro influences that the band possesses; rock and roll with ambition.

This is even more so the case with the powerful, hard rock vocals that weave a compelling performance throughout. The theme of being stuck in an argumentative cycle with others, and the frustration and desperation that comes with that, are delivered with a real strident strength. The melodies aren’t neglected either, with some particularly catchy choruses.

It’s a deceptively straightforwards track, one which reveals more and more to enjoy upon repeated listens. Between genuinely great musicianship and an undeniably strong work ethic, there is a definite place in the modern rock landscape for a band like What Will Be

Be sure to give ‘Always’ a spin, and check out their previous track ‘Slow Down’, which I reviewed here.
