SINGLE REVIEW: The Driver’s Club – Lost in Your Mind (Psychokiller)

the youthful spirit and hedonistic, reckless boisterousness of indie is present here, but all of it is wrapped up with a slick, swaggering confidence and a hard rock drive

A new name, a new style, and a superb new single marks the start of a very exciting era for this group of musicians.

The Drivers Club are an indie four-piece born from the ashes of another project entitled Waiting Til Marriage. Already well on their way to becoming well-established in the northwest of England, the band have shuffled through a couple of members, and have elected to construct something of a clean slate to work from creatively.

Enter ‘Lost in Your Mind (Psychokiller)’, their debut single as this project, and what an immense debut single it is. Yes, the youthful spirit and hedonistic, reckless boisterousness of indie is present here, but all of it is wrapped up with a slick, swaggering confidence and a hard rock drive.

Incredibly catchy choruses are brought to life by bounding rhythms that beg you to dig out your finest leather jacket. Punchy guitar melodies brush up against a surprising saxophone solo in the bridge, all of it performed with the execution of a band with superb chemistry.

All of this superb musicianship provides the backing to a stellar vocal performance that has some deeply infectious melodies juxtaposed with moments of real thunderous power. The moment that bridge reaches its climax is one that is guaranteed to launch you to your feet.

It comes as no surprise that Waiting Til Marriage were chosen to be the final act of Jimmy’s, and The Drivers Club are appearing on the opening line-up of Liverpool’s newest music venue, Jacaranda Baltic; this is indie rock at simply its most electrifying. Get on board with it now.
