SINGLE REVIEW: Fort Hope – Sandbags

a huge rocking anthem with punchy riffs and bold, uplifting melodies.

Ahead of their upcoming UK tour in March, featuring support from the awesome Queen Cult, alternative rock outfit Fort Hope have released another single, ‘Sandbags’.

This marks the band’s second release since their return last year following a lengthy period of silence, and it continues to pick up perfectly where the band originally left off: a huge rocking anthem with punchy riffs and bold, uplifting melodies.

The verses are simple, hard rocking passages, with swaggering percussion undercutting riffs that you might almost find on a Royal Blood track, charging forwards with a gritty, bluesy electricity. The central vocal hook is simple, but devilishly catchy.

On the other hand, those choruses sound particularly immense in scope, with a melody that soars upwards before twisting and turning on its descent back down to earth. It’s wonderfully compelling performance from vocalist Jonathan Gaskin, who shows that he possesses some real vocal power that is worthy of attention.

What big plans Fort Hope have going forwards still remain a bit of a mystery, but what is certain is that it’s good to have them back.
