SINGLE REVIEW: Centerfold – Changing World

what is composed here feels like Centerfold truly demonstrating their ambition. They’re not here to be written off as just another four guys with guitars

Earlier this year, Liverpool based alternative rock band Centerfold released their debut single, ‘Rewrite Your Time’, which I reviewed positively here. Now, after months of hard work, cramming in as many live shows as possible, the band are back with their electrifying second single, ‘Changing World’.

Hard rock riffs meld with huge alternative choruses and progressive structures to culminate in what feels like a track that could have been part of Muse’s early albums. Centerfold build the track from humble percussion-led beginnings, evolving it through punchy choruses that are built for huge stages, and bring the track to a simply apocalyptic sounding climax, crammed with monstrous vocals and double kick rhythms.

Centerfold – Changing World

A true highlight is the guitar led bridge segment, with a gritty, noodling riff overlaying a distant tremolo and simple anthemic percussion, before the track explodes with arena rock fury. Vocalist Josh Stevenson screams ‘this is true destruction’ over and over with vicious power as the drums thunder away behind him.

Whilst their debut was a great introduction into the band’s sound, what is composed here feels like Centerfold truly demonstrating their ambition. They’re not here to be written off as just another four guys with guitars; Centerfold have a raw creativity and willingness to forgo expectations that will take them very far.
