SINGLE REVIEW: Plastic Heart – The Giver of Stars

infectious melodies are laid over pop punk rhythms, tied together with a driving guitar riff that sustains momentum throughout

After releasing their debut studio single earlier this year, alongside a prior EP of demo material, today sees the second single released from Manchester based alternative rock band Plastic Heart.

The female-fronted five piece bring together catchy and hook driven pop sensibilities with a punchy alternative edge, and this is exemplified perfectly on ‘The Giver of Stars’. Simple but infectious melodies are laid over pop punk rhythms, tied together with a driving guitar riff that sustains momentum throughout.

The ethereal lyricism at play, delivered with passionate drama by front woman Naomi Schofield, elevates the track above its grounded alternative roots; it’s all a little bit theatrical, with rich musings on real life themes through a fantastical lens, and provides Plastic Heart some real stand out qualities that puts them above many of their contemporaries.

Plastic Heart – The Giver of Stars

A particularly killer bridge section sees guitars and percussion bounce off one another in a thumping arena-sized moment, before launching into one final rewarding chorus that closes the track off on an anthemic note. It’s a brisk track, clocking in at just under three minutes, but it’s so packed with energy and character you’ll be plenty satisfied.

The market of punchy alternative rock crammed with huge choruses is a little sparse right now compared to the heydays of the 2010’s. Bands such as Plastic Heart, however, show signs that rock’n’roll definitely isn’t dead; arena sized songs like this deserve arena sized stages, after all.
